Understood : They especially don't want to be understood. They want to feel understood.
Commonalities : They seek relationships with other people because they want to think that they are normal. They feel alien in this world, abnormal and wrong--a mistake. They want to find relatability with others so they can accept themselves with all of their imperfections. Perhaps this will fix their self value.
Belief : They want to believe themselves when they tell themselves they are good, noble, and fulfilled. They put on a masquerade to show others, to convince others, that they are these things. Perhaps if they can get others to fall for the illusion, they will begin to believe this image of themselves.
Sympathy : They are in pain. They suffer--life is unfair, life is difficult, life is ugly. If only the others knew how unfair, the others would treat them like the victim they are. Poor victims, worthy of pity and charity. Or is it really just an act, an excuse, a scapegoat?
